What Exactly Is Nutrition and How Can It Affect the Human Body?

In this day and age it can be all but impossible to pick up a product from a local grocery store without seeing the huge area dedicated to the nutritional value of the ingredients within. Nutrition has never been quite as big of a priority as it is right now and with more and more people hoping to moderate their intake of harmful, man-made made chemicals in favour of organic, fresh alternatives – it’s no wonder that so many are looking toward the potential of a healthy diet.

What Does Nutritional Value Refer To?

Every single ingredient that we eat, from salt and sugar to fibre and calcium, will possess its own nutritional value. In the majority of instances, these consumables are categorised into three types of macro-nutrients. The first is fat and although this word alone is enough to make most people quake in their boots; it’s actually a necessary part of the human diet.

The next is carbohydrate and without this macro-nutrient, the human body may find itself struggling to convert glucose into energy, which can leave us feeling lethargic, fatigued and unable to use our brains to their fullest potential. The third and final macro-nutrient is protein and this is by far the most important of the three.

Protein is responsible for providing the building blocks of life and in just a few grams, hundreds of amino-acids can be found that act to repair, replenish and restore the cells within our bodies. Although it is possible to consume nothing but protein experts recommend that a healthy diet should contain a mixed batch of macro-nutrients, in order to function as efficiently as possible.

So, Where Do Nutritional Values Come into Things?

Although most foods will fall into one of the aforementioned three categories; things can go a little deeper as far as vitamins and minerals are concerned. Components such as calcium and fibre are a necessary type of nutritional ingredient and without them, the human body can suffer with damage over time.

Most packaging that contains consumable products will detail things like salt/ sodium, fat, fibre, carbohydrates and protein levels – and these are the individual components that a person will be putting into their body whenever they consume the food within. By moderating the nutritional value of these ingredients, a person will be able to only consume what they wish to.

This can make it quite easy to avoid the risk of consuming man-made products and chemicals (many of which can take an adverse toll on the human body) in favour of healthy, organic alternatives that have been proven to not only benefit the body, but help it to fight infections and illnesses. With a healthy, balanced diet, it’s much more likely that a person will go on to enjoy a longer, healthier life than one that consumes nothing but inorganic produce.
